HELPING STUDENTS REACH THEIR POTENTIAL
Our primary goal is to help each student reach their full potential academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. This is achieved through a well-structured environment, low teacher-to-student ratio, and the integration of a therapeutic, treatment-oriented education model.
Our student body consists of boys and girls, grades 3-12, and up to age 21. Most of our students are on a diploma track moving toward graduation. However, with our ability to individualize programming, we also have students enrolled who are working toward earning a Certificate of Completion.
THE ARROW ADVANTAGE
Each student is tested to identify their strengths and areas needing improvement. Many of our students’ individualized education plan identifies an emotional disability, others indicate autism, a learning disability, intellectual disability or other health impairments. Regardless of an individual student’s challenges, each student is treated as a unique, individual learner to ensure they have the greatest opportunity to achieve their educational goals. Our entire staff at Hunt Valley is focused on equipping each student with the social, academic and functional skills necessary for them to successfully return to a less restrictive environment or advance to career-oriented post-secondary opportunities.

CURRICULUM
Arrow Center for Education Schools – Hunt Valley implements the Baltimore County Public School (BCPS) curriculum. If a class is offered for a student who is not a BCPS student, and BCPS does not have a curriculum available, another Local School System’s curriculum may be used.
For our students working towards a diploma, the curriculum will be accommodated as designated in the IEP. For students working toward a Certificate of Completion, more significant modifications to the curriculum may be made to achieve a more appropriate instructional level for the student.

OUR STAFF
Special Educators certified through the Maryland State Department of Education. Each teacher specializes in a core academic subject and rotates to each room to provide high-quality instruction.
Assistant Teachers – support the instruction and classroom environment. Assistant Teachers remain with the same groupings of students throughout the day, allowing them to be the consistent presence in assisting each student in the classroom throughout the day.
Licensed Clinicians – provide individual and group therapy, and support students’ growth in social-emotional and self-management IEP goals.
Resource Specialists – provide preventative behavioral support, as well as safe and respectful crisis management as needed.
Contractual Psychiatrist – partners with families to provide evaluation services and medication management as needed.
Contractual Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists – provide services as designated on students’ IEPs.
Treatment Coordinator – the contact point for all related services.
Behavior & Academic Specialist – coordinates behavioral data, the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans, and coordinates Assistant Teachers.
Certified Medication Technicians – work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide medication administration and first aid care. In the event of more emergent needs, the school accesses the nursing department of the Diagnostic Center.
Vocational Coordinator – works to prepare students for in-school and community job placements, as well as facilitates family applications to the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DORS) for post-secondary support.
Program Assistant – serves as a point of contact for students’ records.
IEP Coordinator – coordinates with families, local school systems, and Arrow providers to help craft the best IEP to meet each student’s needs.

Arrow Center For Education Hunt Valley follows Baltimore County Public Schools’ inclement weather decisions and will make up any missed days.
Because your student completed the graduation requirements of their Local School System, which are the same requirements as their home school, your child’s diploma or certificate of completion will say the name of their home school—Loch Raven High, Perry Hall High, etc. It is then up to your child if they want to share where they achieved those diploma requirements and mention Arrow.
It varies on the needs of the student, but we work closely with the LSS, to create a plan that works for that student. Sometimes, that involves a student attending their home school for half of the day and to Hunt Valley School for half of the day, before fully going back. But in all cases, we work to ensure that the supports and skills needed in the home school environment are closely mirrored and practiced at Hunt Valley School to increase the success as the student returns.
Students come to us through the IEP central team process. A Local School System (LSS) will refer the student to us. We will contact the family and set up a tour for both the family and student. Interested parents are always welcome to tour the school even if they have not been referred. It is our courtesy to the LSS to notify them if an interested parent tours before a central IEP.
