Arrow unveiled major renovations to its Arrow’s Crossroads Residential Community on Nov. 19.
The renovated spaces feature modernized living areas, updated furnishings and upgraded appliances. These improvements reflect a significant investment in the young women who live at Crossroads and in the future of the program.
“All young people deserve to live in settings that show them their worth,” said Robert Basler, Arrow’s Associate Vice President. “By investing in a new, modern look we are also investing in our residents.”
During Wednesday’s event some of Arrow’s residents took the reins and led tours through the property. Their hands-on approach led to sincere conversations and gave attendees an opportunity to learn how these renovations play a role in their everyday lives.
Crossroads is a program where young women in foster care learn the skills they need to become successful adults. Many arrive after multiple placement failures and find stability and growth through therapeutic support, life skills training, schooling and work experience.
“Far too often, young people in foster care leave the child welfare system without the tools to be successful in their adulthood,” Basler said. “Many come to Crossroads and find success here; some move on to independent living programs, their own apartments or reunite with their families.”
According to Arrow’s leadership in Maryland, this is also an investment by the State of Maryland into our program.
“In partnership with the Department of Human Services, private providers and the legislature, we were able to realize impactful rate reform for residential programs like Crossroads,” Senior VP of Maryland Programs Jennifer McGlothlin-Renault said. “This rate reform allows us to invest directly in the children we serve, from the renovations you see today to best practice therapeutic interventions that help them thrive in our communities.”
As doors officially opened to the renovated space, Basler said he’s most excited for visitors to witness the residents’ reaction.
The open house brought together Arrow staff, Crossroads residents, community partners and our Arrow Board of Directors. We heard from our CEO Scott Lundy, Basler Tracey Coleman each shared remarks too.
The Harford County Council presented Arrow with a proclamation, recognizing the grand reopening for our Crossroads community remodel.
“These renovations set the stage for the impactful work done here each day to support the young women in our care to build a strong, healthy future for themselves,” McGlothlin-Renault said. “We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve our community in this way and to be part of each young person’s journey as they grow into adulthood and become thriving members of our community.”
