Arrow Spotlight: Heroes and Helpers Brings Holiday Joy to Arrow Youth

An early, cold Saturday morning turned into a joyful start to the holiday season as Arrow partnered with Target and Harris County Precinct 4 first responders for the annual Heroes and Helpers shopping event.

The private event took place Dec. 6, at Target’s Spring Grand Parkway location and served 15 children in foster care.

Each child received a Target gift card and paired with a local first responder to shop for items of their choice.

Arrow team members, foster parents, the officers and Target team members helped create a welcoming experience complete with sweet treats and a festive atmosphere throughout the store.

“I really love seeing the interaction between the kids and the law enforcement officers,” Raven Green, Arrow’s Director of Development said. “The first responders are giving their time to come in early on a cold Saturday morning to shop with kids and families they don’t know, and that is such an impactful way for children to spend time with these community heroes.”

The Heroes and Helpers program was created by Target in 2009 to build relationships within local communities. Arrow has participated in the event for three consecutive years after being invited to apply for the grant that funds the experience.

Arrow’s headquarters is located nearby, making the partnership a natural fit.

“It has been a really good few years,” Green said. “Target is incredibly responsive, and we are able to pull families quickly and show up. We are so thankful for their partnership and for seeing a need and filling it for our families.”

Beyond gifts, the event offered children something just as meaningful: choice. Some children headed straight for the toy aisles, others explored and used their gift cards to buy presents for others.

“For kids in foster care, this time of year can be hard,” Green said. “Having the independence to choose what they want, or even choose something for someone else, builds confidence and shows their heart.”

Arrow is eager for the next opportunity to support our families and youth in care.

We extend a huge thank you to Target and the Precinct 4 officers who offered their time and joy. What a fun holiday tradition! #Target #HeroesandHelpers
