Arrow was honored to be highlighted at the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County’s September Showcase, along with other admirable and worthy non-profits serving the needs of Harford County.
The Women’s Giving Circle awarded funds towards an interactive sand table that will support the sensory and communication needs of the students at the Arrow Center for Education Mountain Road.
At the showcase, Arrow was invited to share more about why this grant, and the work being done on our campuses, means so much to our students.
“The students at our newest school, Mountain Road, continue to inspire that mission even to this day,” An Arrow spokesperson said. “Some may see the students we teach their by the limitations that come from their autism, summing them up by what they can’t do to the external eye, struggling with communication, independence skills, academic and self-regulation.”
The Arrow spokesperson shared that Arrow and the students’ families know that our students are doing all of those things people think they can’t, just in their own way.
“They tell us so much each day, but are learning to find the words,” an Arrow spokesperson said. “They are fiercely brave as they navigate a world that often does not understand them. They are smart in ways I will never be on my best day. We see these amazing children each day and we’re not working to find ways to make them better, but to help them connect with and show the world how amazing they already are.”
This gift towards an interactive sand table will add to Arrow students’ experience.
Students viewing how their touch and interaction can affect the world projected onto the sand table gives them a way to explore with autonomy.
“The table encourages communication, peer interaction, and sensory self-regulation,” an Arrow Spokesperson said. “All of these are things that our students will blossom with.”
Arrow Child and Family Ministries is beyond grateful to the Women’s Giving Circle thinking of our students and supporting them in such a way.
