Alexis Hunt, a Foster Parent Recruiter from Arrow’s Beaumont office, recently appeared on KFDM to highlight the significance of National Foster Care Month and invite the community to join the mission.
As National Foster Care Awareness Month is recognized in May, Arrow is focusing on involving families and individuals to consider fostering as the number of children needing placements continues to grow.
“The need is local and it’s urgent,” Alexis Hunt said.
More than 350 children across 15 counties in Southeast Texas are currently in foster care, and many are still waiting for a safe, stable home.
Hunt said the licensing process can feel overwhelming at first, but she encourages people to learn more before ruling it out.
“It is multiple steps, but what we do is we walk alongside our families and at the core of it, we’re just looking for individuals or families in our community who have a heart for this mission,” Hunt said. “We’re going to walk alongside our families and we’re going to walk with them every step of the process.”
During the segment, she shared how individuals can get involved and start their own journey, which can look different for anyone.
“It doesn’t have to be just fostering, it could be respite care, or hosting us so that we can come and speak to your church, your organization, your business, so we can spread awareness,” Hunt said. “There’s multiple ways to get involved.”
