Arrow’s Senior Vice President of Texas Programs, Carolyn Bishop, took a virtual trip to London as she joined Simon Benn, host of the Thriving Adoptees podcast, to discuss the world of foster care.
Bishop explored what it means to function in life as we are firing on all cylinders.
“In child welfare it evolves and changes it seems every day so you can’t stay stagnant,” Bishop said. “I’m constantly trying to learn the why behind the work that we’re doing.”
Bishop went in-depth on therapeutic models that define Arrow’s approach as well as the heart behind the work.
A key focus of the conversation was kinship care and the partnership required to bring families together and help keep them together. Bishop emphasized the importance of establishing clear expectations when working with kinship caregivers from the very beginning.
She said it is imperative they understand the process as well as the support available to them.
“We want to walk alongside you in this process,” Bishop said. “This is not easy relational work, but we have a lot of different services and programs in place to help our families.”
It was an enlightening session that highlighted care, offering a closer look into the nature of child welfare.
Arrow Child and Family Ministries sends an overwhelming thank you to Bishop and Benn for participating in such a meaningful conversation.
